The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 【B】经历了过往两年的生活，电影的讽刺也已不再精明，它恰恰是最常见且最容易被预知的平铺直叙（哪怕是两年前那些隐喻也极易被接收）。观众都已知晓它的讽刺对象，也都能get到那些荒诞背后的真实，也正是因此我们才更应该去观看它，以通俗易懂的方式再度回味那些戏剧与现实。而亚当·麦凯再度验证了一个真理：商业片永远应该是“节奏至上，剧情其次”。那些直白而夸张的荒诞喜剧就是要通过高速剪辑的推进才能保证其趣味性，生硬而突兀的断裂点也同样如此。于是在大部分时间内，观众以同样的态度嘲弄着那些差点成为现实的桥段，直到最后展现学院派版《生命之树》的蒙太奇过场，观众才意识到这本该是两个正常人尝试拯救世界并最终失败的悲情故事，以工整的态度迈向合家欢全灭结局，over。

奥斯卡瞎了只给了最佳导演，还欠最佳改编剧本和最佳男配。（搬钢琴想起《钢琴课》，原来是同位导演）。每日所见的门前巨山，暗藏张口欲吞的黑犬。人性裂缝里的巨大阴郁与暗火幽微，磨爪，绷到最后一环才释放张力，赞最后一夜那幕马棚点烟，又一史册级含蓄拨炭火撩欲不脱衣的名场面。。各怀孤独，各去乖僻，蛇吞大象的果断，野兔也没有逃路。能看的出后面有个优秀文本支撑，已经很想看小说了。因为看到打了同性标签，打算看色情戏的人会失望了。。。可以二刷的片，4＋

完全冲奥相。沉静、克制、残忍的凌迟。女导演在approach各类故事的时候总会贡献更不一般的角度和方式，而Jane Campion这一次选择了留白，将叙事任务更多地交给镜头语言来完成。角色间的张力靠运镜实现，再以特写与音效构建意向群，为观众补充剧本之外的可阐释的信息。更难得的是，在大量的留白之下，故事的完整性和流畅性还能得以保持，这真的很考验导演功力。看到有人说这一部像马力克，对不起啊，作为一个看过他所有电影还做过他研究的人，马力克的作品空洞太多了好嘛！

其实结合断背山看这个片子就能看懂很多菲尔和布朗克的爱情细节，但是这个片子是个情感复杂的猎杀故事（菲尔和罗斯，乔治和罗斯，菲尔和乔治，彼得和罗斯，彼得和菲尔），一个猎杀一个，黄雀在后。
一部相当符合冰山原则的电影，优美、残忍且不动声色。镜头语言绝佳～
表面平淡下是汹涌的暗波，原本强大隐忍的Pill却陷落在精于设计温情中，这刀真是磨得又慢又快。

亚当麦凯依然干净利落、准确且刻薄，唯一的瑕疵是斯特里普和希尔的角色过于卖蠢了点。更微妙的是这部如同超市货架般林林总总展示这个时代愚蠢之处的电影，是网飞出品的。
在传统硬汉电影主战场西部片，新时期电影人对“有毒的男子气概”的精准击杀。在审美日趋多元、打破性别刻板印象的今天，这类电影会越来越多。
这片在豆瓣居然只有7.几分，实属不理解。一把子讽刺了川普、马斯克、苹果、决策链、公众平台、媒体、娱乐圈、现代文明，等等等等，埋了太多梗了。最后这个火箭能在宇宙里撑足2万年，我不信😂。
