The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 泪奔……好片！没有个人英雄主义，只有一个垂暮老人、一条狗、一个有感情会做梦的机器人。
印度这种时常的体量，至少有四十分钟是废话，拖沓得看着蛋疼。首先是整个悬疑的气氛，还是差口气，围绕一名女教授的死亡展开调查，背后牵扯出了各方势力。破案的过程，错综复杂的利益纠葛：这些应该是重点，而不是在法庭上的滔滔不绝。当然，最后的法庭戏，只能说是真的敢拍。对女性尊严的维护，对导师绝对权力的批判，对种姓制度的深恶痛绝，对平等、自由、正义的渴望吗，全都在那慷慨激昂的口若悬河里了。上层的丑恶嘴脸，对舆论的操控，对生命的漠视，一切不过是交易的砝码。直到，这些棋子本身的反噬。
别觉得印度乱、印度穷，印度的电影行业发达程度令我们望尘莫及。
同样是发展国家，同样问题重重的印度给出了答案。
怎么说呢，前半段节奏冗长且慢镜头铺音乐强煽情，后半段庭审的程序正义和结果正义的辩论作为引子刚调动起情绪后最终落脚点依旧还是印度自身的种姓制度和社会问题；可我转念一想，电影是作者自己的表达，而且影片反映出的难道又仅是印度独有的问题么，很多时候打高分还是电影以外的东西。
看了这部电影，感觉好多电影都是在狗刨…编剧神绝…
非我等动动笔杆、喊喊口号的“理论家”所能企及
汉克斯演技自不必说，狗狗是个惊喜，把对机器人的嫌弃演得活灵活现。
过誉，隔靴搔痒。视听感像电影，情绪煽动性极强的新闻专题片。配乐和歌曲不错，歌曲部分常速欣赏，其它1.5倍速飘过。以现实中印度强暴案的体量和深层根源来看，都改编电影直到看吐也难有改变的一天。电影其实是以谋杀而非强暴致死来规避风险，在没有原型事件情况下编拍并通过印度电影审查，国情不同，无需代入。2022·6·28 8.6/2189 短评889条 %83/13/4 【IMDb8.4/8300 全球票房313.51万美元】
前段是《杰伊比姆》式的社会罪案题材悬疑片，但到了最后一个小时开始狂飙突进，大概一口气塞了十个热搜事件和阴谋论、五个颠覆全片级别的反转、以及超过两部电视剧的信息量。性别议题、阶层议题、教育问题、白手套、竞选阴谋论、舆论操控、复仇、政治陷害……每个主题单拿出来都能拍成佳作，就生生全部缝合到了同一部电影里。如此“敢拍”的确是值得崇敬，但这种全靠最初级的闪回和慢镜煽情拍法编织起的高密度强情节也确实是有点极端。
一边跪，一边哭。
根据媒体信息进行评判的民众，仅是政客的票民。平民杀一个人要判刑，政客杀一万个人就不用。剧情两度反转，立意还是不错，但是拍的一般，庸俗的煽情可以少一点，前半部节奏可以紧凑一点。
最后的合影破防了但忍不住思考：一个有情感的机器人和狗谁应该享有更多priority？让有情感的机器人牺牲自己保护狗是不是一种不人道主义行为？
很遗憾，看多了给机器人赋予人类感情的片子，十足反感，撕扯的是人类，所有温情赋予狗和机器人，还不虚伪么，真的，这么残忍的末日桥段，人吃人都很正常， 会让狗活着？机器人能奴役，还平等对待干嘛? 这样所有的温情都显得苍白无力。人类之间互相厮杀，属于人类的情感留给动物和机器人，这样的主旨无法认同。
虽然并没有这么拍，最后还是着落在政治的腐败，阴谋的反转，正义的伸张，还涉及了印度最根深蒂固的种姓制度。而且拍得挺好，瑕疵就是男主中场才出现，要结尾各种闪回来补充人物。
电影牛逼就牛逼在能将女性处境、教育腐败、政治阴谋、体制溃烂、种族歧视、煽动人心、媒体操控、正义边界、法律公信等等这一系列我们一般都不会碰的话题通过一桩女教师命案完美的串起来了。抛开上诉题材不说，电影节奏、悬疑性、人物塑造方面都属上乘。
这脑洞，这反转，这揭露，这美女，值得给五星
情绪被配乐塞得很满，慢镜头多到想两倍速，探讨的议题也不新鲜（我们拍不出不代表主题很新）。这片子更多的分都是打给“片子之外的共情分”吧，片子本身没啥意思。
如果律师真正辩护的就是那四位嫌犯，就算被害人是“完美”的，就算真实情况确实是四名嫌犯奸杀被害人，只要嫌犯一天没有受到法律的审判，就没有人可以判他们有罪，更不能用私刑。法律应该体恤民众，但更要超越民众的偏见。
