The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication.     故事真正的主角就只有女主角一个，基本都是以女主角的视角在拍摄的。其中有几处流黄鸡蛋的位置，其实都是有暗指当时剧情的走势。最后的结尾所谓的“反杀”，其实都是女主自己想象出来的情节。最后的新住户搬来，是女主能看到的视角，而瞎眼夫妇的画面女主是看不到的，也印证了整个“复仇”是她想象出来的。
