The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 粤语版刷完改5星！一切都顺了，人物和情感都立住了，中二台词也不中二了。能这么快看上粤语版实属观众的胜利！/ 22.01.03 二刷粤语版@百丽宫陆家嘴中心｜非常细腻写实的画风，场景设计很有烟火气，满山盛开的木棉花也太美了！人物造型很有地域特色，也很贴合人物设定，看腻了统一网红脸的白蛇、新神榜系列再看到这几个个性鲜明的小孩真是让人眼前一亮。民俗题材和对留守儿童的关注也是在国漫中非常少见的内容。五条人和九连的歌用得到位。动作设计很惊艳，尤其是天台舞狮和最后的高潮决战，很燃！但文戏还是弱，心理戏基本靠直给，人物转变很生硬，台词也很中二。如果编剧能在文戏上再多打磨打磨，就是非常完美的动画片了！/ 12.07 @天山

人设眼睛距离都不提了，也许那些打五星的都长这副德行，十几天打败了别人十几年的努力，然后去搬砖，讽刺睡呢
21世纪最好的中国动画片，因为只有它能完完全全撑得起中国两个字，从骨子里弥漫着一种如青松般的劲头，不惧一切地向上爬，不惧困难地疯长，从一颗种子长成枝繁叶茂。三个舞狮的少年，别认，你别认！
够燃 够煽情 最喜欢天台独舞那段 rolling on响起来的时候还是激动了一下 毕竟曾经单曲循环过 九连真人那首也不错 但问题也很明显啊 梗老 有够俗套 配音可以说很差 台词念的尴尬至极（台词本身就足够尴尬了 让人很不舒服的尴尬 扣出脚皮那种 三星是鼓励
燃到了，哪有那么多的辱华，真的认真看待过这部电影的人都说不出这种话，只有小丑在煽动舆论
节奏从开头就保持情绪渲染的力度，每一段小幽默调节虽有部分遗憾，但整体保持一致性与流畅性，不在中后段过于拔高煽情力度，初赛和决赛小反转成功反套路，力道收放到较短波动内。

3、拍一部弘扬中国传统文化艺术和展现普通人民生活的电影的人，一定比揪着某种长相攻击自己同胞的人更爱国。
写实的动画片，乡下的图景跟我家一模一样，芳村地铁站、荔湾牌坊，广州街道的写实描绘，好感瞬间上升。把广东的舞狮文化内涵做出来了，爬桩是人生爬山的比喻，真的好。分镜和动作设计真棒。事实证明动画还是可以写实的呀，喜欢这种风格~
却深深烙刻在了那些岸边孩童的记忆里。

建模确实存在问题，但是剧本更有问题，充满了男性价值观。和国内的作品比，作品还是有亮点和长处值得称赞的。

20211219 UME 事实证明能进院线的国漫水平都不差…《雄狮》或许可以看作是国漫脱离传统文学路径依赖的开始？骨骼是日本传统少年热血漫画，血肉是生成于广东乡村的生命经验和舞狮文化传统，经络和情感则来自更广泛的城市化过程中一代人的离愁别绪、与生活的缠斗，自我怀疑与自我成长。有动漫和港片一贯的的插科打诨，有共鸣，有温度，有现实感，也有bug——但瑕不掩瑜。节奏气口都对，画面和动作设计堪称无懈可击。阿娟去城里打工一幕简直是催泪炸弹。2021国片最佳。
《雄狮少年》堪称惊艳，不止于燃，更是深切的共鸣。从《大圣归来》到《哪吒》再到本片，国漫实现了从IP到原创的飞跃，完成了从神到人的蜕变。它在传承传统文化、展现中国特色的同时，关注当下现实，关注边缘群体，关注活生生的人，这才是真正值得击节喝彩的国漫之光！
