The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will.     剧构上综合了阿姆勒斯和哈姆雷特的故事，反复出现的巫师与命运女神的神谕使本片在宿命论的阴影中沿着观众已知的故事线完成着一场场的血腥杀戮，直至阿姆勒斯战死，在女武神的怀抱中走入瓦尔哈拉，结束自己的复仇之旅。故事中规中矩，最出彩的角色是被命运所束缚的阿姆勒斯的母亲，片中并没有花费多少篇幅，仅用开头的不让闯入和被掠夺后的尖叫与阿姆勒斯回归后的文戏，就已经让人思考起这位女子的悲剧与挣扎，但其他角色却显得颇为扁平单一

    不确定《王子复仇记》在大银幕上的这么多次改编是否是可取的，但剧情确实亮点不多，算是及格的史诗片吧。与导演的前作相比实在过于平庸，这部整的过于商业化了。我感觉北欧神话元素还是少（可能是制片方给剪坏的？），以及皇后那一条故事线没有展开，很可惜。

    拿仪式当情节，拿风格当表达，当作者过于注重“风格签名”的时候，写下的内容就显得次要了——这部片子完全可以当做作者电影的反面教材。摄影机始终处在无动机的运动之中，以90度为单位的运镜限制了场面调度的灵活性，表演从开场妮可·基德曼的动作就显得程式化严重，横向对比科恩版《麦克白》，强烈的舞台化风格是向内挖掘人物内心的，而本片的风格化却没有一个踏实的落脚点，显得空洞虚浮。感觉艾格斯完全是在过精神北欧人的瘾啊，当神秘不是他作品中心的时候，他的风格就不再奏效了。

    为啥西方老爱翻来覆去拍哈姆雷特，这次还拉上北欧神话一锅炖，看起来一派庄重史诗，然而打来打去目测不过几十人，顶多算农村械斗。当然，两大男主都演过极冨魅力的吸血鬼，肉也露得很有诚意，当属实浪费。还不如正正经经写个剧本专聊皇后这类妇女被抢拐的悲剧。顺说，影片开头显示了时间为公元895年，同时期中国为晚唐，两者文明差距明显。
