The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 臭氧层破大洞末日版《鲁滨逊漂流记》，再混合《瓦力》、《匹诺曹》、《雨人》，Jeff 像一个机器人版的 Sheldon。人类真是糟糕啊，各种意义上。Jeff、杜威、狗狗都很可爱。唯有陪伴始终治愈。
印度电影和韩国电影可谓是近些年的亚洲电影之光了。这部电影在内核上很像另外一部印度电影《杰伊比姆》，都是属于社会批判的现实主义题材，但不同的是这部电影的批判面更广，可谓是方方面面，甚至是对于整个国家层面。但问题也正在于此，不说批判面的广泛程度，单就故事本身的信息量而言，就还有很多内容没有展开，而在立意上，则值得更深入的探讨，但由于篇幅所限，电影在后半段的不断反转中仿佛一直在加快节奏进行着仓促的表达，甚至都没有真正结尾，这多少让人感到遗憾。但话说回来，这种电影的出现本身就已经值得我们的敬佩了。
影片用反转又反转抛出了印度社会的根本问题：制度性腐败，可惜并没有在影片结尾给出我们答案，甚至当观众以为律师是理性的化身之时，又通过一次反转告诉我们这一切的动机是为了复仇。影片最奇怪的地方在于，它用一种煽动式的电影语言告诉观众：不要被媒体煽动，不要被政客煽动。但是它的核心观点之一还是勇敢的，大概可以总结为八个字：去你妈的种姓制度。
观影后，我仿佛已经看到一个庞然大物正在缓慢崛起了，当某些群体习惯性的圈地自娱、一叶障目的放眼世界时，只会尽可能的把别人的不足摆在明面上借以衬托自身的优越，自身的恶劣极尽所能的掩藏起来。反观印度已经开始明白书写满文明只能让现实变得更加野蛮这道理。民主制度和反思的力量并不会如极权般的统治那样即刻发挥效力，但是可以胜在悠久绵长。激素只能兴奋一时，后患却是无穷的。不出意外，此消彼长之间最多三十到三十五年，这个可怕的邻居必将取代“某…”成为世界第二大经济体。
印度真的敢拍啊，这一部电影讨论的东西真的太多了，从女性到种族，从导师霸凌到强权操控，从学生游行寻求真相到媒体舆论操控真相。任何一个主题都够拍一部电影了，而本片尽管有这么多的元素却又合情合理。当然最后的结局有些理想化，还是个人英雄主义挑战强权。
买凶杀人，杀人灭口，
结论说的是唯有在这么棒棒哒的体质下，普通人才有机会干趴下手眼通天的大坏蛋，才能伸张正义，才有能力还人世间一个公道。
2022. 7.11，在这个近期吃瓜，瓜连着瓜，热点一个接一个的当下，结合目前的舆论环境来看这部影片就像是有人替我们喊出了一些声音，被愚弄驯化被操控的人们，睁开眼睛吧，撕开真实世界的一角给你看下，哪里有什么真相？有什么正义？有什么公平？片子结局其实是有点糊了，开场近一个小时的铺垫也稍长，背景音乐也有对点乱剧情，想说的东西也是太多太多，有点溢出，但法庭辩论还原事实部分还是起鸡皮疙瘩的~~~~~推荐一看~~~耐心是美德，尤其是看印度片~~

反转再反转，结尾有点仓促，律师那条线信息量好大，可以展开拍个续集
很久没看过这么精彩的主旋律电影了，配乐尤其出彩，而且剧情也没拖后腿，看到结局的时候内心真是五味杂陈，没什么好说的，我只希望这部电影能进明年的豆瓣年度电影榜单。
虽然情节、设定背景都平淡且老套的很，但它还是能一步步把你引入陷进让你泪流不已。
神级反转，然后从zz，文化，教育多反面嘲讽，虽然最后显得有点多余，但整体无伤大雅。最后真的佩服，印度电影是真敢拍啊
影片将主线故事讲得过于复杂，进入太慢，剪辑拖沓，完全可以用120分钟处理得舒舒服服，非要加一堆扉页，画蛇添足。
前半部分和后半部分在主题上的选择上真是极限反转，也只有印度这个神奇的国家才能诞生这种电影。这片的风格跟《万岁毕姆》很相似，前半部分就是印度人民受难图鉴，真正的主角出场很晚，而且很扁平化、神格化，仍带有一丝阿三开挂的调调在里面，虽然本片也在修补这一点，添加了一个冗长的结尾试图丰富一下主角的过往，但反而显得狗尾续貂
整体没什么问题，但在2021年还讲这么陈旧的故事，确实没什么价值。
运镜，剪辑，推进……堪称凌乱毫无章法，
又一部印度神片，太厉害了！不得不说，印度就敢拍这一点，就让国内望尘莫及无数个层次！！！学术造假、性别歧视、媒体操控、公检法的万恶体制……几乎所有的点都说到了，个人认为任何人都应该看一看此片！除了震动、震撼、震惊……之外，我找不到词汇表达我看完之后的情绪；另外，很多时候，我们知道的真相真的就是真相么？真相背后是什么？真相是谁说的算的？其实都不重要，重要的是你相信了什么……连续反转，律师振聋发聩的诘问让人灵魂颤抖！！！
让指责的人戴上手铐的政治
故事和反转非常精彩，内容深刻，发人深省，涵盖的主题从女性到媒体到正义到真相，再到制度，涵盖之广，令人嗔目，值得学习。但影片本身质量一言难尽，逻辑上bug到离谱，庭审上俩律师各说各的就离谱，剪辑叙事毫无水平可言，像是一篇全靠配乐烘托的大型PPT。
