The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 如果要用一句话总结：这部电影是Mike Mills献给Urban America的影像prose.不同城市的印记随着镜头推进慢慢烙印在故事当中，而黑白的画面既产生一定距离，也让抒情变得隽永。电影的文学性却是比20 Century Women更加的直接（direct citation成了backdrop monologue）,非虚构的纪录片巧妙结合进叔侄二人朝夕相处的(chaotic)日常。也许成长最终都意味着情感的释放，坦然接受生活的苦难，怀着对未来的怀疑与恐惧正面迎接它的到来。虽然Phoenix和小男孩都贡献了上乘的表演，但于我而言感动都来自孩子们真实的采访---可能通过孩子的眼睛我们才能真正参透这世界去向何方，而未来也逐渐清晰，向我们呼唤c'mon c'mon.

What a bittersweet, healing, and intimate movie. Joaquin, Hoffman, and Norman are spectacular. The children's words are innocent yet profound. One of my favourite of the year. 9/10
