The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 与之前的PTA有一些不同（我能说底味儿类似大师么）。不过他的特点（注意是特点不是优点）的部分遗失还是让我有点失望的。
我也不知道为什么，开场他们只是一直走路聊天都让我觉得津津有味，几乎每一场戏都吸引人，每段表演背后的情感变化都能被理解，轻巧而饱满。
PTA拍糖水片日剧跑，带着三分漫不经心和七分玩票交差。
太真了太接地气了真他妈甜，活该我今天看这片，活该我，我活该！！！
〈三星半〉没有问题。有些情绪是该被拍出来。
蛮惊喜的，笑点与泪点并存，有欢笑有思考，除了搞笑之外，还有难以掩饰的辛酸和悲凉，完全值回票价。假币交易，舔刀尖，杀哈维几场戏确实很搞笑，电影院笑声没断。魏成功这个角色应该是给魏翔量身定做的吧，两人的演艺生涯都跑龙套好多年郁郁不得志，不同的是魏成功的男一号依然是黄粱美梦，魏翔真的是这部电影的男一号了。当结尾他哭着说感谢所有人为了他这第一部男一号的辛勤付出的时候，真心被魏翔感动到了，感动于他对梦想的坚持和戏里对自己这个男一号的珍惜和尊重，好几场哭戏演得真棒。有梦想谁都了不起，梦想什么时候开始都不晚，成功比未成功就多坚持一次；每个人都有存在的意义，对了，片尾曲特意查了一下，天才白痴梦，真好听。给心灰意冷的小人物们在这个春节送去一丝暖意，是这部片子最温暖的意义
我好愛好愛好愛⋯⋯ obsessed with Alana Haim😭 如果結局是他們沒成就好了，這樣整個故事就是關於她的mid-20 crisis了，那我會給這個故事打五星。不管是青少年男的還是老男人還是跟她差不多年紀的男人，她都是被無視的。（看完才知道女主姐妹是HAIM呃！絕了！）
为了公平打分 我专门补看了原版 哎 怎么说呢 原版就是浪费胶片。。。
有点儿意思，但意思不大，失望更多。关于一个对生活有野心有热情的姑娘，折腾的疲惫很真实也转瞬即逝，出了小酒馆聚众即兴演起电影很飞，但只是起了个调，完了就…没了？有种微妙的将人物们用完即弃的感觉…
下半部分，也能算电影吗？

上半部分笑是真好笑，俗是真好俗。
所有最好笑的包袱都来自于原版，然后编剧自创了挺多烂笑话儿，就显得挺有断层的。
他们争吵不休，永远满怀嫉妒，在复古的、灯火通明的加州夏夜里不断地奔跑，在受命运安排前不断否认他们注定要在一起。 可惜有佳句无佳章，远不是最好的PTA。如此糟糕的亚裔玩笑，在2021年出自好莱坞最重要的作者导演的新作中，在以包容著称的纽约，还能引得观众大笑。道阻且长。（讲自己的故事当然没问题啊，but PTA is such a small man 在座各位有想到吗？我是没眼看的。
PTA的电影其实一直不是我的菜，总觉得味道怪怪的，确实像吃了个甘草披萨...（这次连片名我都不知道什么意思）他的电影比较私人化吧，比如对演员有独特的审美趣味，这次的男女主都是他的熟人（老搭档菲利普塞默霍夫曼去世了，于是就找他儿子演，这点还蛮感动的），故事应该也都是改编自他的制片人朋友的真实经历，人物众多，情节流水账。但确实有的地方视听观感很高级，片头男女主在学校拍照路上相遇就拍得简单又有意思。男主是个超级社牛症，跟大他10岁的女主相爱相杀，一块创业做水床生意，他们各自都尝试过更适龄的约会对象，直到结尾才真正在一起。喜欢把彻底没油的卡车空档开到加油站那段，帮深柜议员打掩护蛮抓马的。台词很street boy，选了很多怀旧金曲。
