The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 前一部潮語電影屬於是「文化糟粕輸出」，還好這一部有所改變，至少代表了潮汕地區偏農村部分的現狀，母親是一個很割接的角色，既默默承受著操持家庭的壓力讓人心疼，又固守著自己「為你好」那一套東西讓人無奈，雖有美化但也較寫實了，五星支持下家鄉本土文化。

泽凯妈对“外省再婚女”珊珊的抵触，似乎是潮汕人浓烈的宗族与本地意识的集中外化。语言的阻塞，制造心灵的隔膜。城市对小镇的同化，外语对方言的遗忘，又现几分文化忧患。而其本质，无非是封闭与自洽的空间生态，在面向无法掌控世界的极端畏惧与不安全感。而最终的和解，多少沾上些“延续香火”的妥协。
真实还原了外地人在潮汕人家饭桌上的场景，一句话也听不懂却莫名的感觉温暖。

估计外地人看了大呼想逃的程度？那个姑娘大概是太缺爱，要不然自己独美倒也自在。妈妈的形象其实还是蛮立体的，能干，强硬，比较封闭，但也愿意为了孩子努力改变。
